Don’t Stop Believin’

I know it would be so nice to stop in at Brow Betty and get your eyebrows done, but unfortunately right now you can’t. Don’t give up! You won’t have to do much to keep them looking fab—all it takes is a little maintenance, a little patience, and a return to the basics. Ok so, how do you groom eyebrows in a pinch? Here are our top 5 tips for maintaining your woolly bear caterpillars at home, and all you’ll need are scissors, tweezers, and an eyebrow pencil.

How to Maintain Your Eyebrows at Home

1. Embrace a Little Edge

Before you grab your tweezers and go bonkers on those brows, it’s a good idea to take a moment and just appreciate the little things. The arch. The top. And that tail! Who knew eyebrows could be so perfect? We did. That’s why we do this for a living. But unfortunately, eyebrows are like children. Sometimes they can get… a little stir-crazy after being confined to isolated spaces—honestly me, too. So reining them in will require you to enforce your boundaries and use an eyebrow pencil to outline where you want your eyebrows to be and where you don’t. Use these guidelines to enhance your brow shape and fill them in.

2. Don’t Get too Extra

I know you’re just dying to absolutely annihilate those stray eyebrow hairs but just… cool your jets for just one moment, my friend. The worst thing you can do right now is overdo it. All you need to do is maintain those fabulous shapes—don’t go Mr. Spock on us. Use that nice barrier you drew to lift the arch a little and accentuate those undersides so that you have some sharp, but casual lines for the upcoming weeks. You should only tweeze hairs that are ⅛” away from your brow. Don’t forget to enforce social distancing as you tweeze the center! Be careful though, over-tweezing the center can make the gap between your brows look unnatural. Keep those little leader tufts fluffy.

3. Show ‘em Who’s Boss

After tweezing those strays, turn your attention to the meat of the brow—the Facial Forest north of your eye. Sometimes those inner eyebrow hairs get a little too long. My friend sometimes has these one inchers—they grow ‘em big over there. Unfortunately, that’s just a Bit Too Long (sorry). So grab the tiniest brush you can find and the tiniest scissors you can find, and just kinda… snip snip a bit to give your hairs a consistent look all the way through.

4. Give Them Space to Do Their Thing

Self-isolating yourself during a global pandemic is a great time to regrow your eyebrows. Give your eyebrows a break from all the threading, microblading, and waxing—besides, fuller, bushier eyebrows are now in style so why not just reset? Every eyebrow is a beautiful peacock trying to spread its wings. Let them, but within reason. It’s honestly the best option when you’re stuck at home with a mirror and tweezers. Don’t be tempted to go overboard here, just take a step back and wait until you can make an appointment with us.

5. Pamper and Spoil Them Until They’re Happy

So you’ve plucked all the strays and outlined the edges and trimmed the long boys, now it’s time to wait. I know, I know, waiting is the worst, but keeping your eyebrows as healthy and solid-looking as possible will prepare you for your return to Fierce Brows, USA. You’re using sunscreen right? Right?? Don’t leave your gorgeous face unloved. This is one time when you can touch your face, just make sure that you wash your hands thoroughly before and after you rub on that SPF. Look into investing in some eye-specific creams that will keep your brows hydrated through the crisis. If you’re in quarantine, tie a note to your dog and tell them to run over to the nearest Ulta.

Stay Safe and Keep On Bettying

It doesn’t matter if you’re self-quarantined in your house, or locked away in a tower in the Kingdom of Corona, tangled in your own hair—grooming maintenance at home can be easy. We hope that you find these 5 tips helpful on your valiant quest to stay on top of basic eyebrow maintenance during the coronavirus crisis. We miss you. We love you. We will be back soon.
